Oklahoma has long been interrelated with Bingo. That’s because the Indian tribes of Oklahoma have run Bingo games for generations. Patrons from each of the neighboring states get in vans and travel to Oklahoma to gamble on Bingo over the weekends.
The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act became law after a precedent setting decree by The U.S. Supreme Court the year before. From that time, twenty three of the 39 Amerindian bands located in Oklahoma have established bingo halls. The Chickasaw were the 1st Oklahoma Amerindian band to take advantage of the gambling rules, and today control 10 casinos of their own. Bingo was the game on which these gambling dens were founded. computerized games such as slot machines were not allowed, owing to the fact that they are thought to lead to gambling dependency more than bingo.
In the past few years, Oklahoma law has altered to permit big Native gaming gambling halls. You’ll now find Indian gambling halls with one armed bandits, video poker and chemin de fer tables. Craps and roulette are not yet legal in the Native gambling dens yet, however that is just a matter of time. No one can determine whether having different games in the bingo parlors will do for the popularity of bingo.
