Can the Smoking Ban in England Drive Bingo Players On to the Internet?

Much has been written in the papers recently about the bingo industry singing the blues as a consequence of the anti cigarette law in Britain. Conditions have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for huge aid to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. However will the online adaptation of this traditional game present a salvation, or will it in no way compare to its real life relative?

Bingo has been an enduring game historically enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game of late had witnessed a recent comeback in appeal with younger men and women opting to visit the bingo parlors in place of the discos on a Friday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the enacting of the anti smoking law across UK.

No more will gamblers be allowed to smoke while marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 every public location will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most favorite areas where folks like to puff on cigarettes.

The effects of the cigarette ban can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already not allowed in the bingo parlours. Profits have plunged and the industry is absolutely struggling for its life. But where did the players go? Obviously they have not abandoned this classic game?

The answer is on the web. People know that they can play bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a beer and cig and in the end, enjoy massive jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course betting on on the web is unlikely to replace the communal part of going down to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of men and women the governing edicts have left a number of bingo players with no choice.
