Might the Anti Smoking Law in Britain Force Bingo Players On to the Internet?

An abundance has been talked in the press not long ago concerning the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the cigarette ban in Britain. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for massive tax breaks to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. However does the internet adaptation of this quintessential game provide a lifeline, or might it not compare to its land based kin?

Bingo has been an familiar game generally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game recently had experienced a recent return in popularity with younger people opting to hit the bingo halls rather than the clubs on a Friday night. This is all about to be reversed with the enforcement of the anti smoking law all over England and Wales.

No longer will players be allowed to puff on cigarettes at the same time dabbing numbers. From the summer of 2007 every public place will not be allowed to permit smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most popular locations where people enjoy smoking.

The results of the smoking ban can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already illegal in the bingo parlours. Profits have dropped and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Certainly they haven’t forgotten this age old game?

The answer is online. Gamblers realise that they can wager on bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a beverage and fag and still have a chance at massive prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.

Of course gambling on on the web could never replace the collective portion of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a group of men and women the rules have left a lot of bingo players with little choice.
