An abundance has been stated in the papers recently about the bingo industry struggling as a result of the smoking ban in Britain. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big tax cuts to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. However can the web version of this traditional game offer a reprieve, or might it never compare to its land based equivalent?

Bingo is an classic game generally played by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game lately had experienced a recent return in popularity with younger men and women opting to go to the bingo parlours instead of the bars on a Friday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the cigarette ban all over United Kingdom.

Players will no longer be able to smoke whilst marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public location will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most common locations where folks enjoy smoking.

The effects of the anti cigarette law can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already barred in the bingo parlours. Profits have plunged and the business is literally fighting for its life. But where did the players go? Of course they haven’t abandoned this established game?

The answer is on the web. People know that they can enjoy bingo from their computer while enjoying a drink and cig and in the end, enjoy huge cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course gambling on on the internet is unlikely to replace the collective portion of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the governing edicts have left many bingo enthusiasts with little option.
